Despite having been a success story for Nintendo for over a decade, Animal Crossing remains an entirely unique prospect in videogames. Some might compare it to The Sims for a loose understanding of the open-ended nature of the videogame; others might suggest that it has common with Harvest Moon in that of its relaxed style of play. Truth be told, its very little like either of these titles: Animal Crossing is simply Animal Crossing, and theres absolutely nothing wrong with that.

"Having heard but tales of the Japan only Animal Crossing in my youth, I was there on day one to pick up the subsequent worldwide port to Gamecube in 2004. As the first time the series had launched in the west, it was a new and exciting brand of gameplay that appealed to my erratic teenage mind. Of course, being a bored youth at the time, I had a free enough calender for the game's real time clock to fit in well with my empty schedule. Playing New Leaf as an adult is an altogether different experience. The charm and new mechanics offer excitement and nostalgia in equal measure whilst being held back by how a game in real time clashes with adult commitments."

Siliconera - My third day in Animal Crossing: New Leaf and my town Crawford was bustling. My home expanded, there was a new neighbor, I received my development permit, I dabbled in clothing design and I was even able to visit someone elses town for an orchard construction project. Most important of all, I finally was able to buy a fishing pole!
